Catacaos
The craft capital of northern Peru
Catacaos is known for its goldsmiths, who work gold and silver filigree, and for hand-woven toquilla straw hats. Calle Comercio, lined with workshops and shops, is a few minutes from the hotel.
Lunch here means a picantería: seco de chabelo, ceviche, majado de yuca and chicha de jora. The Narihualá archaeological site lies just outside town, and the city of Piura is a short drive away.
The hand-painted mural at our entrance tells that same story.
